Valentine’s Day Gifts From the Kitchen

One of the reasons I love Valentine’s Day is because there are so many different from-the-kitchen crafty ideas – easy, inexpensive, fun ways to show someone you love them.  You can keep it as simple as some construction paper, paper doilies, and a glue stick, or go as extreme as cookie flower bouquets.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve shared a few ideas with you.

Make sugar cookies and tint the dough with red food coloring, then cut out hearts.  Using a star tip and white buttercream frosting, give the cookies a lacy outline.

Make a white cake recipe.  Puree a half a pint of strawberries in the blender and add that to the liquid (cutting the amount of milk included in half) to make pink cupcakes.  Frost with tinted buttercream and  decorate with Valentine’s Day sprinkles.

A few cookies and a couple of cupcakes in a festive little Dollar Tree bucket, and you have a lovely gift that would brighten anyone’s day.

Red Velvet Whoopie Pies are perfect for a Valentine’s Day Theme.  The red of the cake and the white of the frosting are extremely festive — not to mention that this recipe is amazing.

Floating Hearts are extremely elegant, perfectly delicious, and the ideal end to a romantic dinner for two.

This Red Velvet Roll tastes amazing.  I could just eat the filling with a spoon and be happy about it.

I’m excited that Scott is in school this year.  Kaylee has gotten too old to give her teachers cookie bouquets for Valentine’s Day, and I haven’t done it for the last few years.  In fact, her sixth grade year, I had all of the flower pots and greenery purchased, and got a total pre-teen-hand-on-the-hip-eye-roll accompanied by a six-syllable, “M-o-o-o-o-m!” over the idea of giving her teachers such presents.  I’ve missed having the opportunity to spread love the way that I love to spread it.

Using lollipop molds, make chocolate hearts accented with white chocolate dyed red.

Using wooden skewers, bake sugar cookies cut into flowers and hearts and butterflies and then decorate them with tinted buttercream frosting.

You need to make extra cookies on the sticks, because not all of them stand up to being handled and will fall off the sticks.

In the bottom of each flower pot, put floral foam and use that as the base in which to stick the lollypop sticks and skewers – making a cookie and candy arrangement.  Add some silk greenery.  It looks very complex, but it is actually very simple to do – just time consuming to decorate all of the cookies.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
