One of the reasons I love Valentine’s Day is because there are so many different from-the-kitchen crafty ideas – easy, inexpensive, fun ways to show someone you love them. You can keep it as simple as some construction paper and paper doilies, or go as extreme as cookie flower bouquets.

I made this frosting to fill my Red Velvet Whoopie Pies, but it would be an amazing frosting for any kind of cupcake or cake.
Pin ItHere’s the menu for my family for the week of July 18th. This is Gregg’s last week home. As far as desserts go, I’m going to re-attempt the red velvet cheesecake. I’m also going to make some Whole Wheat Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Pin ItHere’s the menu for my family for the week of June 27th. Gregg is home (yay!) and Tuesday this week is our 9th wedding anniversary. As such, I’m going to attempt to create a red velvet cheesecake my friend Heather from Out of the Box Into the Kitchen recommended to me. The recipe she gave me called for a Devil’s Food cake mix, so I’m going to try to recreate the recipe real food style. I also found a cookie cutter in the shape of Lightning McQueen, and may make some Traditional Sugar Cookies and let my boys decorate some cookies. We also have a ton of birthday cake left.
Pin ItSince there is just a week left until Christmas Eve, I thought I’d consolidate some recipe ideas for you.
Pin ItHere’s the menu for my family for the week of November 29th. As far as desserts go, My husband’s birthday is in 2 weeks. I’m going to prepare his birthday box, and include Heavenly Red Velvet Cake mini cupcakes and some Stuffed Red Velvet Cookies (not stuffed). In the meantime, our cookie jar is getting low, so I’ll probably make some whole wheat chocolate chip cookies (which I strangely don’t have a recipe up for and will rectify that soon!)
Pin ItI thought I’d do the next Essentials series with bakeware, but as I went to collect it all to take pictures, I realized just how much I had. So, I’m breaking it down into types: Cookies, Cakes, Pies, and Desserts. I’m afraid that this post is going to be a little long. Making cakes, decorating cakes, playing with different cake recipes — that is a passion of mine. I have been collecting cake related paraphenalia for two decades, and have an extensive collection.
Red velvet cake holds a very special place in my husband’s heart. It was the last birthday cake his mother made him just weeks before we went to be with the Lord. Knowing this, I have searched far and wide and manipulated countless recipes to create a superb red velvet cake. I believe that I have finally hit the nail straight on the head with this recipe.
