Menu Monday 09 MAY 2011

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of May 9th. I’m keeping the menu simple this week, because I have a lot of work to do in the garden. As far as desserts go, Kaylee is fasting from sugar this week, so I’m going to just have some fresh berries and (unsweetened) whipped cream to eat as a dessert, and I’m not going to make anything here that would tempt her.

Serve One Another in Love

So, at the end of the day I was obnoxious all day long with the camera but will start all over again on a “normal” day instead of a crazy day.

But then I realized what I did have – an inside look at the soup kitchen. I thought, what a gem.

Menu Monday 25 APR 2011

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of April 25th. As far as desserts go, I’ve been really hungry for apple pie, so I think I’ll make a whole pie or a few turnovers. I also did a commissary trip this weekend, so my baking stash is replenished. I bought a couple bags of peanut butter chips – I may play around with a recipe using those.

Homemade Potato Chips

My son Scott loves potato chips. Since potatoes are in the “dirty dozen”, I try very hard to just get organic potato chips. But, organic potato chips are SO EXPENSIVE. It doesn’t seem worthwhile to even buy that little tiny bag. Recently, Scott brought me a potato and said, “Can you make me some potato chips?” I love the fact that he deduced that potato chips come from potatoes, and that he was confident I could produce them. Which I did. They were amazing. Kaylee came home from softball practice and ate the leftovers, then asked if I would make them for her the next morning for her lunch. I will never purchase bagged potato chips again.

Menu Monday 18 APR 2011 – Passover & Resurrection Sunday Week!

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of April 18th. As far as desserts go, last week I thought I was cooking for Kaylee’s softball team, but that is this week. So, I’ll be making Delectable Deluxe Brownies Tuesday. We’re observing a Passover Seder on Wednesday, and I’m going to attempt a flour-free lemon cheesecake. The children will be making Resurrection Cookies Saturday night.

Educating Ourselves on School Lunches

I think school lunches have been on the radar for at least the last year – with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution airing last April. I know a lot of those in the “real food world” have been speaking out about them for years, but to little to no avail. But Jamie Oliver got the mainstream America talking, at least for a little while. School lunch news this week has been all freshly abuzz with the premiere of Food Revolution 2, an article in the Washington Post about flavored milk, and an article in the Chicago Tribune about a school that didn’t allow any child without a medical permission slip to eat anything but the lunches provided by the school.
