Quick & Easy Sloppy Joes

Quick & Easy Sloppy Joes

My dad came up with this recipe one time.  My mom was somewhere doing something and Daddy had to make dinner.  He browned hamburger then started dumping things into the pan.  He used home canned tomatoes and home canned green beans, which made his version amazing.  I’ve not enjoyed Sloppy Joes without the green veggie since.

1 pound ground beef
1 15-ounce can diced tomatoes
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
1 small onion
1 small green pepper
1 clove garlic
1 tsp Kosher or sea salt
½ tsp fresh ground black pepper
½ tsp dried basil
1 can canned or 1 cup frozen or 1 cup fresh green beans
Homemade Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns

sharp knife and cutting board -or- onion chopper
garlic mincer
deep frying pan
wooden spoon
measuring cups/spoons

Dice onion and green pepper.

Mince (or finely chop) garlic.

Cook green beans if using fresh.

Place ground beef in skillet.  Add onion, green pepper, and garlic.

Cook until beef is browned and onion is tender.

Add salt, pepper, and basil.

Add tomatoes (undrained) and tomato sauce.

Add green beans.

Stir well.  Cook over medium heat until thoroughly hot.

Split hamburger bun.

Top with Sloppy Joe mix.
