My garden is STILL producing tomatoes. I had about 15 pounds the other day, and wanted to do something different with them, so I tried oven roasted tomato sauce.

My dad came up with this recipe one time. My mom was somewhere doing something and Daddy had to make dinner. He browned hamburger then started dumping things into the pan. He used home canned tomatoes and home canned green beans, which made his version amazing. I’ve not enjoyed Sloppy Joes without the green veggie since.
Pin ItMeatloaf is one of my favorite dishes, if I prepare it or if my mother prepares it. I’ve learned not to order it in restaurants or get it off of buffets, because a lot of people do something to it that I just don’t do – but I’m not sure what that is. I’ve always used green peppers when I make it, but I didn’t have any the day I made it for these pictures, so I used yellow peppers. I LOVED the difference. I will from now on use yellow peppers to make my meatloaf.
Pin ItWe don’t eat pork, so this is the perfect substitute for a “pulled pork” sandwich. I use organic root beer, because it’s made with real sugar and not high fructose corn syrup.
Pin ItGrandpa would have line caught salmon on the grill and garden fresh corn on the cob. Grandma would cover the picnic table with a red and white checkered tablecloth, and we’d eat on paper plates with wicker plate holders.
Pin ItThis is such a tasty sauce! It really goes well with whole grain pasta. It is exactly the right amount of spicy and exactly the right amount of rich and thick.
Pin ItThanks to Kelly the Kitchen Kop for a Real Food sauce. Use glass jars to store the leftover sauce if possible. Plastic generally does not keep the sauce well.
