The Garden: Week 8

Posted by Hallee on Jun 30, 2011 in Gardening, Hallee's Galley

It’s crazy how, when you’re looking at the new baby plants planted so far apart, you think you should fill in the gaps. But, experience teaches you that’s a really bad idea.

Food Art: Watermelon Shark

Posted by Hallee on Jun 29, 2011 in Food Art

Feeling slightly overwhelmed with the thought of all that I had to do, I decided to do something I thought I wouldn’t have time to do — make a watermelon shark.

Menu Monday 27 JUN 2011 – 9th Anniversary Week

Posted by Hallee on Jun 27, 2011 in Hallee's Galley, menus & menu planning

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of June 27th. Gregg is home (yay!) and Tuesday this week is our 9th wedding anniversary. As such, I’m going to attempt to create a red velvet cheesecake my friend Heather from Out of the Box Into the Kitchen recommended to me. The recipe she gave me called for a Devil’s Food cake mix, so I’m going to try to recreate the recipe real food style. I also found a cookie cutter in the shape of Lightning McQueen, and may make some Traditional Sugar Cookies and let my boys decorate some cookies. We also have a ton of birthday cake left.

Herb-Roasted Potato Wedges

Posted by Hallee on Jun 25, 2011 in Christian Faith, Daniel Fast, diet & fasting, Hallee's Galley, Recipes, sides, Snacks

This recipe is so easy to make, and is such a beautiful side dish to almost any sandwich. We love this kind of side for our game night dinners when we tend to go with Turkey Burgers or Root Beer Barbecued Beef Sandwiches.

Natalee’s Summertime Strawberry Cupcakes

Posted by Hallee on Jun 21, 2011 in Desserts, Hallee's Galley, Recipes

I wrote her a few weeks ago and asked her to make me a cupcake worthy of the first day of summer. I have to tell you — this is my new favorite cucpake recipe. I may forever and always do strawberries. YUM. And, the ladybugs just were the perfect touch to these amazing cakes.

Menu Monday 20 JUN 2011 – Gregg Comes Home!!!

Posted by Hallee on Jun 20, 2011 in Hallee's Galley, menus & menu planning

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of June 20th. Gregg comes home Thursday night!! My sister-in-law will also be in town Thursday night and my parents on Friday because we’re having a big combination birthday party for Scott and Johnathan on Saturday. As far as desserts go, I’ll be filling the cookie jar with something fun so that there’s cookies available for all of our company. I’ll also be making a large sheet cake for the boys’ party, and some homemade ice cream for the party.

Sautéed Summer Squash with Radishes

Posted by Hallee on Jun 17, 2011 in Hallee's Galley, Recipes, sides

This recipe came about because I went to make you Sautéed Summer Squash, only my yellow squash in my kitchen I had picked the day before disappeared (and since was found, in a small piece with dog teeth marks on it – quite curious). Not willing to let that quell me, but not wanting you to be stuck with just zucchini and onion in the recipe – I decided to utilize some of the radishes fresh out of my garden. The result was simply amazing. I will definitely be adding radishes to my squash sautés from now on.

The Garden: Week 6

Posted by Hallee on Jun 16, 2011 in Gardening, Hallee's Galley

I no longer have a smaller garden, a corn garden, and a main garden – everything has been merged into one big “L” shaped garden.

A Taste of Summertime Heaven

Posted by Hallee on Jun 12, 2011 in Desserts, Hallee's Galley, Recipes

I made dinner for a family from church the other night. I was packaging up the roast beef and trimmings I’d been cooking all day when it suddenly occurred to me — I hadn’t done anything for dessert. In panic mode, I ran through a quick inventory of what was immediately available and what I could come up with, when I spied my full cookie jar. The boys and I had made Whole Wheat Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies the day before. I’d used slivered almonds as the nut and they were beyond wonderful.

I decided to use my Smooth & Creamy French Vanilla Bean Ice Cream and make ice cream sandwiches.
