Menu Monday! 27 JAN 14

It has been an entire year since my last Menu Monday! Wow!

It is CRAZY how much easier life goes when I make a menu for the week. And, honestly, when I’ve not been putting it up on this blog, I’ve not been really creating one at home, either…

Menu Monday 14 JAN 13

Welcome to my weekly menu!

This week is going to be a low-key week for me. Because my 6-year-old was sick with the flu all last week, I lost a week of working (I don’t work when my kids are home). Thankfully, I’d had several blog posts already queued, so the blog went without a hitch. But, the surprise book I want to release on February 14th is really getting to crunch time. If you wanted a copy of my Budgeting Spreadsheet, make sure you leave a comment in the post. I also wanted to thank everyone for the amazing responses to With Fear & Trembling.

The “rules” of our household diet can be found in the tab above labeled Hallee’s Galley and further explained in Our Diet.

I usually serve leftovers for lunch the next day, or we’ll save them during the week to graze lunch on the weekends. We try to have a few meals a week vegetarian (see my post on eating meat) and eat fish at least one meal a week. One meal a week is usually a “Dinner Out” meal.

Almost all of the breads are homemade using fresh milled flour. I’ll continue to link to my recipes as I post them. Our daily bread is Whole Wheat Honey Oatmeal Bread.

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of January 14th. As far as desserts go, it’s rainy and cold outside as I type this, so that puts me in the mood for some sort of steamy hot fruit cobbler. I also made some Apple Fritters Sunday morning for breakfast. Oh my, they were good. Kaylee has asked me to add them to the standard weekly meal.

Menu Monday 05 NOV 12 – Election Day & Veterans Day Week!

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of November 5th. I cannot believe that I typed ‘November’ as the month. Wow! I have been insanely finishing a book – if my week goes as planned, I’ll finish Monday or Wednesday this week and will hand it over to my editor. I’m anxious to finish it, because I’m anxious to start the next book. I doubt I’ll even take a day off as this book is flooding my mind and interfering with everything as I mentally work through the story.

Despite all that, my family still has to eat – HA! That has been a big challenge for me as I have spent the last two months turning my writing life into a full time focus — how to do that and keep up with real food. I’ve done it, and I’ll say that the only way I’ve been able to do it is through planning. Meal planning and sticking to the plan keep me sane.

So, this week is volleyball banquet, superhero party, and Veterans’ Day all rolled into one! As far as desserts go, I made some Oatmeal Cinnamon Chip Raisin Cookies and sent some to a friend’s car dealership. That Sunday at church, I was bombarded by his employees asking me to send more cookies. I plan to do that this week, as well as make some Super Hero Sugar Cookies for our church’s Super Hero Party the boys will be attending Friday night. I also have a photo shoot for my author promotions and book covers this Saturday, so the menu Saturday night may be changed to read “dinner out with my handsome veteran husband” instead of something I cook.

Lastly, don’t forget that Topaz Heat is on sale this month for just 99 cents!

Menu Monday 15 OCT 2012

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of October 15th. I cannot believe that October is already half gone! As far as desserts go, I’m going to make a batch of pumpkin bread for a friend. I also have children complaining about the empty cookie jar, so I’m going to make a batch of Cinnamon Chip Oatmeal Raisin Cookies!

Menu Monday 27 AUG 12

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of August 27th. I am prepping to be away for six days to go to my cousin’s wedding, so I’m going to double-up a couple of recipes and freeze them so that Gregg can just heat up pre-prepared meals for him and the kids. As far as desserts go, we are up to our elbows in apples – canning, freezing, juicing. So, I’m going to make an Good Old Apple Pie or nine and freeze them, and I’m also going to make Brown Sugar Apple Crisp. That is so good that my kids asked me to make it for every day.

Menu Monday 20 AUG 12

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of August 2th. This week is SO BUSY. Kaylee has three volleyball games, I will be out of the house three evenings this week, and we have an exciting Saturday morning breakfast meet-up with Stacy Makes Cents! So, meals are going to have to be simple or easily left for the family to handle final prep.

Menu Monday 13 AUG 2012 – First Full Week of School!

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of August 13th. This will be Kaylee’s first full week back to school (she started last Thursday) and the boys both start on Wednesday. We are also full swing into volleyball season, with two away games this week. As far as desserts go, we found some brown rice Rice Krispies, so we’re going to make some Rice Krispies treats using those!

Menu Monday – 02 JUL 12 – Independence Day!

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of July 2nd. As far as desserts go, the boys and I are going to do something with blueberries and strawberries for 4th of July — just not positive what yet! Gregg and I just came off of the Daniel Fast, Kaylee is on a mission trip with her youth group, and next week, we will be at Glen Eden all week, so I’m going to keep meals simple for the week.

Menu Monday 18 JUN 12 — Daniel Fast Week 2

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of June 18th.

Gregg and I have felt the need to fast for several weeks now, but we were crazy around here with the end of school and getting books released. So, we’re starting the fast last week. The reason for the timing is this: this is seriously the only chunk of summer that isn’t rife with military training for the national guard or summer camps, etc., for our ministries. If we were going to fast this summer, it has to start now.

We are doing Daniel Fast. My blog post about that can be found here, but basically, it’s vegan extreme – and I’m throwing in my own personal restriction to unleavened bread only. Last week, Gregg did a juice fast during the day and ate vegan soups in the evening. This week he’s in line with me on a regular Daniel Fast.

On Saturday, we are having the boys’ birthday party. My parents and my sister and her family will be in town. I haven’t really felt tempted by food this fast, but we’ll see how I do with full meal preparations, homemade ice cream, and birthday cake!
