Homemaking with Hallee: The Changing of the Seasons

Welcome to Homemaking with Hallee — a weekly linky that will provide us with all sorts of homemaking tips!

The rules are simple. Link back to this post, and make it about homemaking and not promotion.

I love the change in seasons. I moved to Florida when I was 20-years-old, and lived there for fifteen years. We lived in northwestern Florida, so winter came — and by that I meant that during the month of February, it would get cold. But there was nothing as far as a change of four traditional seasons.

Adapting for Life

However, now that Gregg is home all the time, yet still busy with meetings and National Guard duty, now that Kaylee is on the volleyball team and a high school sophomore, and now that Scott and Johnathan will both be in school and active in different activities all year, I have discovered that a “year at a glance” just isn’t going to cut it anymore in organizing our family.

Dear Hallee: Drying Sheets

I absolutely DESPISE washing bed sheets because inevitably they always end up wound in a ball with stuff inside and still wet. Do you have any tricks to fix this problem?

Finding Balance

I started typing the words, “I’m a homemaker…” when I realized that wasn’t right. Well, it IS right, it just isn’t complete. For the first time in my life, I wrote the words, “I’m a full time writer who manages two blogs and writes Christian romance novels.”

A Bad Habit Revealed

I have a bad habit.

I have a tendency to leave cleaning supplies in my wake.

I’ll clean a room, scrub it down, mop it, vacuum it, make it shine like new. And when I’m done, on one surface will be a bottle of furniture cleaner, on another a bottle of window cleaner (vinegar & water), and on tossed somewhere will be the rag I used to dust the furniture.

Things I’ve Learned This Week

This week was my first full week totally focused on this new venture as an “official” novelist. I’m working on my trilogy, focusing this week on the first one (Sapphire Ice) and the third one (Topaz Heat). Sapphire publishes this month. I’ve been working on final edits, getting feedback from a set of beta readers, writing the blurb, and working with the cover artist. Gregg has been researching how to publish it and all of the details and nuances involved within that big giant convoluted world (he sends me technical articles in emails titled, “Stuff I Read So That You Don’t Have To” — and when I skim through them I’m reminded of how much I love and adore my husband), and tweaking this blog.

On Topaz, I’ve been filling in the holes after the first draft, re-writing chapters, and fluffing out thoughts and feelings in scenes. I could do that all day long, really. I love writing.

I’ve also been trying to create a web presence as Hallee Bridgeman, Novelist, as opposed to Hallee the Homemaker. Which requires reading and commenting on author blogs as opposed to homemaker blogs, working the Facebook and Twitter scene as Hallee Bridgeman instead of Hallee the Homemaker, and learning how Google+ operates.

I’ve learned a few things this week:
