First Impressions
I would love to have a yard like that, but I don’t know where to start. I come home from their house so inspired, then I wander around the garden center of Lowes and don’t do anything. We moved into our home on July 2nd three years ago, and I’ve never done anything but mow the yard or build a vegetable garden.
The Garden – Week 6
I know some of you have been wondering why I didn’t post any garden pictures last week. Well, I took them, and the garden needed to be weeded so badly that you couldn’t see the plants for the weeds and grass growing, so I didn’t post them. Here’s what I mean:
So, needless to say, I had some work to do there. Here are this week’s shots. It’s still not where I want it to be, but the plants are at least not being choked by the weeds.
The Garden – Week 4
I was sick 5 out of the last 7 days. My lawn needs to be mowed, and my garden seriously needs to be weeded. But, because I’m a stickler for a schedule, I’m posting this week’s pics anyway. I pray I have the time and energy to get the weeds under control in the next week.
The Garden – Week 3
It’s all starting to happen this week. Lots of progress has been made, but there’s still work to do every day. Here’s the view of the big garden – the shadow of the house is annoying. Sorry about that. I didn’t take the picture until Wednesday morning, when I have been taking them Tuesday evening:
The Garden – Week 2
Everything is still kind of starting off this week.
Garden Week 1
All of the seedlings I planted before I left for spring break a few weeks ago died while I was on vacation. I think the cat had her way with them. So, I replanted them last week, finally. They are just starting to grow. The potatoes I planted in my large garbage can are doing beautifully – the can is already halfway full of dirt and I have about 10 potato plants growing steadily upward. I’m excited to see what the potato harvest will end up being.
I finally got my backyard tilled. I’m kind of glad that I didn’t have it done before now, because we had a pretty harsh cold snap the last couple of days, and if I’d have been on the schedule I had in my mind, I could have lost everything and had to start over.
Gardening in Containers
So many people want to garden, but don’t have the room to do it. They either don’t have a yard at all, or the yard they have is unsuitable for gardening. But if you have a desire to grow, if you want some fresh home-grown vegetables on your table this season, it’s possible to grow some things without a yard.
Gardening: Breaking New Ground
I started digging a new garden area where I will have carrots, radishes, and onions growing on a rotating basis.
The Best $1 I Ever Spent
See this brush?
I got it for $1 at The Dollar Tree.
gift idea: Potted Amaryllis
Potted Amaryllis: A wonderful hand-made and rather inexpensive gift from the heart would be a beautiful flowering plant from a bulb you (and/or your children) planted.
