Here’s the menu for my family for the week of June 28, 2010. As far as desserts go, I have a house full of children (8 to be exact). We had a family reunion Sunday, so I have lots of leftover food, including a huge cookie tray. If I make anything, it will be with a 4th of July theme and later on in the week. Maybe some cupcakes.

I have a new venture in my life. One recent morning in Sunday School, our teacher announced that our class would be one of four groups who would be volunteering with a local church’s soup kitchen. That immediately got my attention. I had no idea my little town in central Kentucky had a soup kitchen.
Here’s the menu for my family for the week of June 21st. As far as desserts go, I have a wedding cake to bake this week, so I’m not doing any desserts for my family. We still have some leftovers from the bakesale Saturday, so they’ll be fine.
If you read me regularly, you’ll notice I went back to my normal Menu Monday style. I am still doing the guidelines for the Abs Diet for Women, but I’m not posting it all. It’s basically a high protein breakfast (Delightful Spinach and Dill Eggs, etc.), a high protein snack (Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie), a light but well rounded lunch (Satisfying & Crunchy Mixed Green Salad with Blue Cheese), a light snack (cheese stick and a few crackers, etc.), a good dinner with protein and a vegetable or salad (Cornmeal Crusted Rainbow Trout), and a sweet snack (yogurt). With this diet, I walk a couple of miles a day, pushing the double stroller with about 65-70 pounds of toddler in it. And doing all of that, along with caving in to my love of all things cake and cheating here and there WAY more than I want to, I’ve lost about 10 pounds in 4 weeks. Not bad, and if I keep steady at it all summer, I should be well on my way to where I want to be.
Pin ItI would love to have a yard like that, but I don’t know where to start. I come home from their house so inspired, then I wander around the garden center of Lowes and don’t do anything. We moved into our home on July 2nd three years ago, and I’ve never done anything but mow the yard or build a vegetable garden.
A local church is facilitating a bake sale for our family’s youth summer camp for disadvantaged youths. The bake sale commences at 8AM on Saturday morning at our local Wal-Mart (and Wal-Mart will match whatever we make in the bake sale!)
It has been REALLY hot out there lately, so we’ve been trying to plan what to bake that will handle the heat. For instance, I think chocolate chip (or cinnamon chip) cookies would become big gooey messes, and icing would likely slide off of any cakes.
I know some of you have been wondering why I didn’t post any garden pictures last week. Well, I took them, and the garden needed to be weeded so badly that you couldn’t see the plants for the weeds and grass growing, so I didn’t post them. Here’s what I mean:
So, needless to say, I had some work to do there. Here are this week’s shots. It’s still not where I want it to be, but the plants are at least not being choked by the weeds.
Here’s the menu for my family for the week of June 14th. This should be week 4 of the Abs Diet, but I did not follow it last week. I started volunteering cooking at a soup kitchen and worked 3 days last week coupled with the fact that we had Vacation Bible School all week at church. It was enough that I ate and that I fed my kids, to be honest.
Things like this only work when you’re consistent, and I seem to have had a week on, week off mode since deciding to do it. I haven’t weighed myself, but guessing, I’d say that any weight I may have lost in the beginning is back. So, I need to get serious about this. I’m going to pray about it, something that I have not done (strangely) and make sure that I’m doing the diet that I should be doing and the exercise that would most benefit me.
Pin ItMy family calls these travel sandwiches because when we go on a trip, we always have some in our cooler. Whenever we stop for lunch, we just cut chunks of sandwich off and pass them out. They are beyond delicious, incredibly good for you, and better the longer they sit.
Pin ItHere’s the menu for my family for the week of June 7th. This week is Vacation Bible School at my church! I love VBS week, and so do my kids. I’m working in the kitchen for the week, and we’re having hot dogs and chili for all of the workers for VBS every night before it starts so that they don’t have to worry about meals.
