Hidden Nemeses
Always always always pick through your dried beans.
I have never looked through a package of beans that didn’t contain at least one rock.
I’d hate to think of you biting down on one of those things. Ouch!

so true…
Traditionally, in the South, those rocks were added by the farmer who was never paid very much per pound for his beans. A few discrete little pebbles sent him home with a few more pennies in his pocket. EVERYONE knew to check your beans and find them and get them out.
