Letting Go

I wish I had the words to explain to you the amazing creature that is my daughter. She is 12, going on 39. She has experienced so much, has traveled so extensively, has lived more life than most people with senior discounts. She’s suffered extreme hurt and knows God’s perfect love.

The Ternary Plan

Limiting was HARD. I was all done in a day, then the next day saw something else, and the next day Gregg wanted to order something online, and the next day I thought of another great gift idea…but because we had committed to each other that it would only be three presents, from here on out, we kept ourselves from going overboard.

Oh the Teen-iness of it All!

According to experts, prior to adolescence, a child’s primary influencer is his or her’s parents (or guardians.) There is no cognitive thinking of consequences. That part of the brain isn’t developed yet. There is simply, “Mommy said no,” or, “Daddy said stop,” or, “I touched the stove once and it was hot, so I better not touch it again.” Children are influenced by what we as parents require, demand, control, encourage, motivate, discipline, etc.

Blessings from Above

As I cooked and thought of all of these things, I wondered if my friend felt this deluge of emotions as she enters the final stretch in her pregnancy. If this moment means so much more to her now that she’s suffered such horrible loss this year. Not to say that the child will mean more than her daughter, but the knowledge of the journey garnered, for me at least, a greater appreciation for just how big this blessing from God is.
