Today’s Meltdown Brought to You By…

All week long, I’ve prepared Scott for the inevitable fact that he will wear a shirt and tie to school today. All week long he’s informed me that he will NOT wear a shirt and tie to school today.

This morning, I allowed 15 extra minutes and got out the clothes from which I would allow him to choose and he melted down. Clothes went everywhere. Tears fell. Beds were kicked. Pillows thrown. Choices given.

30 Days of Thankfulness Day 5

At 5, Jeb is our absolute joy. I don’t say that to take anything away from our other children, but Jeb is just…joy. He is highly emotional and has a happy nature, which means he is almost always just bubbling over with happiness. A friend at church says often that she wishes she could capture his laugh and just have it throughout her day.

The Garden: Week 1

Can you believe that it’s gardening time again? This winter went by SO FAST.

That may have a lot to do with the fact that we didn’t have much of a winter in Kentucky. Our heaviest snow came on March 3rd, and the day after that it was 80 degrees outside.

Consequently, I was able to till the section of garden I planted — barefoot! I love tilling dirt barefoot. There are few things as energizing as the feel of fresh-tilled dirt on bare feet.

Transitions

I’ve had so many people ask me how the transition of Gregg being home has gone. This past weekend, while Gregg had drill in Alabama, the kids and I visited my parents in West Virginia. At church Sunday, their pastor asked me how married life was treating me – as if we were newlyweds. It made me laugh. It also made me want to share this.

This, Too, Shall Pass

My friend, Angela, has three little boys. Her oldest is in kindergarten and her youngest is one. Her middle boy has Down’s Syndrome and is extremely high maintenance. Angela, though, is wonderful and handles all of the challenges in her life with such grace that she inspires even the most weary of moms around her. She blogs with humor and amazing depth at her blog My Three Sons.

The Reversal

I’d never planned to have any children with my first husband. We struggled financially without children, and nothing about his lifestyle really was conducive to having a child or rearing a child. I had to work full time, had no choice but to work full time, and that didn’t sit well with me in having a child. But, God saw things differently than I did.

A Week in the Life of Hallee: Tuesday

This wasn’t a typical week for me by any stretch of the imagination. But, I thought that you might enjoy seeing the process that I went through to prepare my home for my husband’s return and to plan for Scott and Johnathan’s combined birthday party, which included out-of-town family being here. So, here it is, one of the craziest weeks of my life. I have determined that I will do this again once school starts and I do have a typical week, so that you can see that I’m not always so insanely overwhelmed with life.

Menu Monday 20 JUN 2011 – Gregg Comes Home!!!

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of June 20th. Gregg comes home Thursday night!! My sister-in-law will also be in town Thursday night and my parents on Friday because we’re having a big combination birthday party for Scott and Johnathan on Saturday. As far as desserts go, I’ll be filling the cookie jar with something fun so that there’s cookies available for all of our company. I’ll also be making a large sheet cake for the boys’ party, and some homemade ice cream for the party.
