Call for Testimonies

I’m going to write a book about managing a home with tips, tricks, encouragement, etc., from all of those angles. It’s still brewing. It won’t be until after summer before I can work on it (unless other things go faster than I expect.) But, I’d like to include testimonies from other wives/moms/homemakers out there who manage their home and other aspects of their lives…

Powdered Laundry Detergent

One of the most popular posts on this blog is my Homemade Laundry Detergent. It is so popular because you can wash laundry for the cost of about $1.06 per 64 loads of laundry.

Well, you have to make that soap ahead of time and let it gel up overnight. Which is cool when you’re paying attention. Not so cool when you lose track of how little soap is in the bottom of the container.

Old School Housekeeping

I’m so curious about it. This was an era before television, computers, some phones, mommy groups, play dates, working remotely, etc. I’m curious if women just felt like they had to fill those hours in the day with housework, or if there is truly something to be said for being that thorough every single day in your home. If it was done daily, and a good rhythm was established (note in the order of cleaning that the steps in and out of the room are even given), my entire house could be cleaned in just a morning. Instead, I do a room or a group of rooms a day, do my daily chores, and spend the rest of my (kid-free) time in front of a computer, working.

I’m not even going to pretend that I catch or see every spill that happens. I will share with you this super neat trick that I use to make keep the fridge shelves clean much much easier on me.

Stylin’ White Board

I tried to work without it, but honestly, I was a little bit handicapped. I tried using a notebook with a pen, but it wasn’t the same. My white board is an organizational tool that my brain uses as a leftover to my career days when I had two huge white boards going in my office at all times. It think better using one. I plot better. I write better.

But there was no way that big ugly thing was coming into my dining room.
