Showing 1/4 Inch Who’s Boss

If you remember my Wordless Wednesday from last week, we got a new refrigerator delivered on Tuesday. We actually purchased the fridge in the beginning of August, but they were out of stock and we had to wait for delivery. Gregg measured the fridge, and he and my dad spent a day one weekend cutting the cupboard above the refrigerator to fit the measurements of the new fridge.
Only, it didn’t fit. By 1/4 inch.

The Best Husband on the Planet

So, a couple of weeks ago, he told me that he mailed me a box and he couldn’t wait for me to get it. (For you new visitors to my blog, Gregg is in Afghanistan.) He just doesn’t have time or opportunity to mail a lot of boxes, so I was excited. For him to have purchased something for me, and be able to work time into his schedule to actually mail it was very intriguing. When I got the box today, it was very small, and my anticipation of what was inside was further piqued.

The Power of a Praying Wife: Chapter 2 – His Work

This chapter is extremely timely for me. Since long before we were married, Gregg has done the same thing. He is a computer consultant and teacher. A company calls him and says, “We need x, y, and maybe z.” And, Gregg packs his bags and makes hotel reservations and flies to the company and does x, y, and usually z². Another company will call and say, “We have this situation and this many people need training.” So, Gregg will pack his bag, make hotel reservations, and fly to the next exotic city where he’ll teach and train for a week or more. He’s really quite good at what he does.

Emergency Substitution: Sweetened Condensed Milk

Sometimes when you find you didn’t have great planning and took advantage of a relatively well stocked pantry that didn’t end up being as well stocked as you thought, and when you’re baking a cake at 5:00 in the morning and you have two sleeping toddlers upstairs and a husband in Afghanistan, and it’s not really convenient to run to the store to grab that one pantry item you need right now, it’s nice to know that there is a possible emergency substitution. (heh) This happened to me. As I was making Tres Leches Cake for Cinco de Mayo, I went to put together my “three milks” and discovered I didn’t have any sweetened condensed milk. Normally, I would have just set the cake aside to do later, but the milk needs to be added to the cake while it’s still warm, and at 5AM, there was no way I could do it. So, I discovered a good sweetened condensed milk substitution. The cake tasted fantastic, so I’m calling this one a success.

Blizzard Bloghop

For those of you who read me who are not in the “blogging world”, this weekend is a huge blogging conference called Blissdom. Some of us couldn’t go because an ocean separates them from Nashville, some of us chose not to go because our husbands went back to Afghanistan last weekend and we thought the stress of Mommy going away for a whole weekend would be too much for our toddlers, and some of us just couldn’t go.
