These treats were made for Kaylee’s 4th grade teachers and school administrators — so, 3 years ago. They weren’t designed to offer any kind of tutorial in how to do them, so I apologize for that, but they give you an idea of how easy it is to put together something personal, something special for those people in your life whom you want to gift with Valentines.

I tried to think of ways to make a glass armonica, a furnace, reaching claw, and a flexible urinary catheter. I found that these tutorials although might prove amusing to me and to those who read this would not prove useful to most people performing cupcakery. Somehow a ‘congrats on passing the kidney stone’ cupcake just didn’t feel quite right. I did feel however the kite could easily be used for a spring party or a birthday party and the glasses could be a fun addition to an ‘over the hill’ party. Hope I haven’t embarrassed myself too much and I do hope that I get to show off more complicated cupcakery in the future, but these were fun, educational, and hey darn tasty too!
Pin ItOur family always enjoys a traditional New Year’s Day menu. That is: Black Eyed Peas, Turnip Greens, and Cornbread.
I’ve never really researched the tradition, just accepted it as what “people do”. So, last week while I planned on writing this post, I discovered this fascinating information on Wikipedia:
Pin ItI don’t add meat to my greens. I love the flavor of the vegetable to be its primary flavoring. I always get compliments on how good they are.
Pin ItOur family always eats black eyed peas for New Year’s Day dinner. Because we don’t eat pork, we use a smoked turkey leg. It is a WONDERFUL substitution.
Pin ItDo you have some leftover eggnog, too? Not a problem. A friend of a friend shared an Eggnog Cookie recipe that is quick and easy and a perfect “after Christmas” treat. They taste just great topped with nutmeg. They taste even better topped with eggnog icing. They taste the very best topped with both!
Pin ItI set out with the intent of creating a week of “Christmas Breakfast Ideas” and had the thought of doing an eggnog pancake recipe. Well, the eggnog recipe that I’ve been making since my mom would let me into the kitchen is simply: 1 egg, 1 cup whole milk, sugar, and spices. Since my pancake recipe calls for 1 egg and 1 cup milk, rather than having to go through the extra bowl and beaters to make eggnog, we’re just going to make pancakes with eggnog seasonings.
Pin ItUsing your platters or baskets that you bought for each person on your gift list, put a few cookies, a few pieces of fudge, some candy — just make a small gift plate. You don’t need to give a dozen cookies. If I had done cut out sugar cookies, I would have just done four to six designs, then given one of each one. Five or six pieces of fudge is plenty. Three or four pieces of Captain Crunch Candy fills up a portion of a platter. For the two breads, I balance the platter out with a mini-loaf on either side.
Make a batch of Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. Frost your cupcakes. Make sure your assistant doesn’t get any on his white turtleneck (even though it appears that mine got some on his chin.)
