I was looking around online the other day to find something uniquely Canadian to post about Thanksgiving. Since Canadian Thanksgiving is actually a celebration of harvest and has nothing to do with pilgrims and the new world, what I found referenced over and over again was Harvest Bread.

Hallee's Galley,
menus & menu planning
Here’s the menu plan for the week of 5 October 2009 for my family. As far as desserts go, I’m going to make a Chewy Chocolate Cookies, and Kaylee has asked for a Pear Pie.

This recipe makes a nice pocket you can stuff to make gyros, shwarmas, or fun PBJs for school functions.

This is the simplest pie crust you can imagine making, and every single time I’ve ever served this or taken a pie somewhere, I’ve gotten compliments on the crust.

Traditionally, gingerbread cookies are decorated with white icing and raisins for features, but feel free to let your imagination run wild with other decorations such as red hots, colored sugar sprinkles, gumdrops, etc. Prepared dough will keep in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. This wonderful, versatile dough can not only be used to make gingerbread men, but also other shapes, like gingerbread houses.

An old Kentucky boy called this “the best zucchini bread he ever did eat.” High compliments indeed.

French Bread I use French Bread to make garlic bread, and travel sandwiches. This recipe makes a light loaf that is just the right amount of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

This is the Whole Wheat Oatmeal Honey Bread that I make for my family for our daily use. It’s slightly sweet and light and the honey helps absorb and retain moisture, so it keeps these loaves fresh and moist. I love honey. I love cooking with honey in all extremes. I mean – how can you not love baklava? But in a less in-your-face nature’s sweet goodness, I love this bread recipe.
