Being a Good Friend

Posted by Hallee on May 4, 2011 in Life

I’m not a great friend.

Really, I’m not.

The worst part about it, though, is that I have terrific friends. I have the best friends and I could call any one of them and they’d be here in a heartbeat.

Homemade = Yummier

Posted by Hallee on May 3, 2011 in Hallee's Galley, Life

Kaylee came after school and I made her a plate of sandwiches. Halfway through the first one, she stopped eating and said, “This isn’t your bread is it?”

Serve One Another in Love

Posted by Hallee on Apr 28, 2011 in Christian Faith, Life, missions, Prayer

So, at the end of the day I was obnoxious all day long with the camera but will start all over again on a “normal” day instead of a crazy day.

But then I realized what I did have – an inside look at the soup kitchen. I thought, what a gem.

Our Curriculum

Posted by Hallee on Apr 27, 2011 in homeschooling, Life, Parenting

We use a combination of different curriculum resources for the children, and we do more than sit down daily and do book work.

Staying on Schedule

Posted by Hallee on Apr 26, 2011 in Family, Housekeeping, Life

You can make schedules all day long. The challenge comes in implementing the schedule. Here’s the way I’ve looked at it: I’ve thought about how a hired housekeeper for a large home is able to stay on task, keep it immaculate, and cook meals in the process. The answer is: she doesn’t play around on Facebook all day, she doesn’t watch television in the middle of the morning, she doesn’t read a murder mystery in the middle of the afternoon — the housekeeper clocks in at a certain time in the morning, performs the daily tasks as the job description requires, and leaves in the evening. When I worked, I was able to do my job efficiently and exceptionally because I worked – all day long, I worked. I had a schedule, I kept it.

Sometimes Little Things Make the World a Better Place

Posted by Hallee on Apr 22, 2011 in Life, Parenting, Raising girls, Raising teens

The other morning, Kaylee had a rough start. She slept in, she was absolutely exhausted from two away softball games in a row – getting her to bed well after 11:00 each night, and she felt frustrated by sleeping in.

As I made her lunch, on a whim, I wrote a quick note to her.

The Dirty Dozen

Posted by Hallee on Apr 21, 2011 in Hallee's Galley, Housekeeping, Life

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) performed more than 43,000 tests for pesticides on various types of produce in thousands of samplings. Their computer analysis revealed that consumers could reduce their exposure to pesticides by almost 90 percent by avoiding just the most contaminated fruits and vegetables. They came up with a list of the most pesticide-laden produce varieties.

Revisiting Eostre and Her Bunny

Posted by Hallee on Apr 19, 2011 in apologetics, Christian Faith, holiness, inspiration, Life, Parenting

Now here we are at Easter again. The very basis for our faith, for our lives, is that Jesus Christ paid the payment for our sins by suffering and dying on the cross, was buried in a tomb and resurrected on the third day, then He ascended into Heaven and sits at Father God’s right hand. That is the core of everything we believe, the reason we live the way we live, and our message to the world.

Educating Ourselves on School Lunches

Posted by Hallee on Apr 15, 2011 in Hallee's Galley, Life, Parenting, Raising teens

I think school lunches have been on the radar for at least the last year – with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution airing last April. I know a lot of those in the “real food world” have been speaking out about them for years, but to little to no avail. But Jamie Oliver got the mainstream America talking, at least for a little while. School lunch news this week has been all freshly abuzz with the premiere of Food Revolution 2, an article in the Washington Post about flavored milk, and an article in the Chicago Tribune about a school that didn’t allow any child without a medical permission slip to eat anything but the lunches provided by the school.
