Menu Monday 30 APR 12 — Derby Week AND Cinco de Mayo!

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of April 30th. As far as desserts go, since Kentucky Derby AND Cinco de Mayo fall on the same day, this week I’m going to make a Derby Pie and Tres Leches Cake.

While you’re here, be sure to enter to win this amazing bracelet by Cathy’s Creations and an autographed copy of my second novel, Emerald Fire, Book 2 of the Jewel Trilogy. You can enter here. The contest ends at 5PM EST on May 5th — Derby Day/Cinco de Mayo!

Dear Hallee: Drying Sheets

I absolutely DESPISE washing bed sheets because inevitably they always end up wound in a ball with stuff inside and still wet. Do you have any tricks to fix this problem?

What People Are Saying

Those are just a brief sampling of all of the many 5-star reviews Sapphire Ice has received. The reason I’m telling you this, is because THIS is what people are saying about Emerald Fire, Book 2 of the Jewel Trilogy:

Tip: Discarding Kitchen Grease

Restaurants can face fines if it’s discovered that they dispose of grease improperly. But restaurants are just part of the problem. I never poured grease down the kitchen sink simply because long ago in my early adulthood, I clogged the sink up with cooking grease. But, until I took this class, I didn’t think twice about flushing grease down the toilet. However, the water from the toilet goes to the same place as the water from my sink, and it flows through pipes and will clog just as easily as it did in my own personal kitchen sink all those years ago.

Emerald Fire: Prologue

Here is the prologue of my upcoming release, Emerald Fire, Book 2 of the Jewel Trilogy.

Emerald Fire will go on sale Monday, April 23rd.

THAT afternoon, Maxine Bartlett had watched two policemen drag her sister, Robin, kicking and screaming, away. Maxine could remember with perfect clarity Robin’s blood soaked clothes, the blood on her hands, the ferocious look on her face, her blonde curls damp with sweat born of fury, one shoe kicked off in her struggle with the police. They’d separated the girls, bundling Robin into the back of a police car and Maxine into the back of an ambulance. For the first time in her fourteen year long life, Maxine no longer had Robin beside her. She felt completely alone.

An Inspiration

“You and your husband are such an inspiration to me.”

I said, “Inspiration?”

“Oh yes,” she said. “I just love watching you two. You fill my heart with such love and joy.”

Fresh & Flavorful Pico de Gallo

My daughter Kaylee LOVES fresh pico de gallo. She’ll sit with a huge bowl of it and a bag of organic tortilla chips and just inhale it. And because of the health benefits to the fresh salsa, I don’t discourage it. With fresh tomatoes, fresh peppers, and fresh onion, the vitamins and minerals can’t be beat. In running the nutritional analysis of the recipe, this is what I discovered. Fresh Pico de Gallo is has no cholesterol, is low in sodium, very high in dietary fiber, high in manganese, high in magnesium, high in niacin, high in phosphorus, very high in potassium, high in thiamin, very high in vitamin A, very high in vitamin B6, and very high in vitamin C.

It’s also REALLY easy. I make it all summer long straight out of my garden.

Menu Monday 16 APR 12

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of April 12th. This is a quiet week in our household, which is a good thing. We’re gearing up to publish Book 2 of the Jewel Trilogy on the 23rd (NOTE: This is the last week to get Book 1, Sapphire Ice, for just 0$.99!), and I really need an uninterrupted schedule this week. As far as desserts go, I think Gregg and the boys are going to make some Gingerbread Cookies. Kaylee asked if I’d help her make a chocolate mousse pie — that will be a lot of fun!
