Square Works!

I cook dinner for my church family on Wednesday nights. This last week, I had cherry pie on the menu for dessert. When I started baking Wednesday morning, I realized that I didn’t have any aluminum pie tins, and I only own two glass pie plates. Having no desire to venture out to the store, I improvised and made a square pie.

Whole Wheat Brown Sugar Apple Crisp with Cinnamon Whipped Cream

It’s apple season here at our household, and our apple tree is bursting with fruit. While planning to take a meal to a family at church who just had a baby, I decided to make an apple pie. But, when I inventoried my aluminum pans, I discovered that I’m out of pie plates. Since I try not to take anything that needs to be returned to me (so that the family doesn’t have to keep up with dishes from so many church members bringing food) I decided instead to use a square cake pan and make an apple crisp. This was so good, very simple, and so easy to make.

Old Fashioned Pecan Pie

I love pecan pie. It is absolutely one of my favorite pies. This was the first time I made this particular recipe for pumpkin pie and I loved it. It’s easy, few ingredients, and tastes fantastic. I used whole wheat flour and coconut oil for the crust.

How to Make a Lattice Topped Pie

Lattice topped pies do nothing more than to make a pie visually appealing. You can perform the same function of creating a vent within the pie with several slits cut into the top crust of pie, or using a pie bird. However, I’m a big fan of visually appealing food, and I think that some pies (i.e. cherry pies) require the extra effort to make them taste better. (kidding) (well, mostly kidding)

Terrific Turkey Pot Pie

There’s just something really comforting about cracking open the pot pie crust and getting that first fragrance of wholesome, healthy goodness. The textures and the flavors are such a delight. PERFECT comfort food.

I love apple pie. I’m a big believer that simpler is better with apple pie. I’ve tried all kinds of complicated recipes, and just keep coming back to this good old reliable apple pie recipe. You’ll be amazed and how many compliments you’ll receive with such a simple recipe.
