As much as I enjoy feeding my family, breakfast on Christmas morning always feels like an afterthought to me. We’ve usually been up for hours, opening presents and sipping on coffee and hot chocolate, when suddenly everyone is hungry and I just don’t feel like cooking or dirtying up dishes.

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of December 12th. As far as desserts go, it’s Gregg’s birthday on Friday, and he has requested a red velvet roll — much like Stacy’s Pumpkin Roll. I will also begin my Christmas Baking.
Pin ItHere’s the menu for my family for the week of December 5th. As far as desserts go, I’m making Stuffed Red Velvet Cookies (but I’m going to experiment with juicing a beet to use for the red dye instead of commercial dye) for a birthday present for a work colleague of Gregg’s, and making Stacy’s Pumpkin Roll for a birthday present for the kids’ horseback riding instructor. I’ll probably be nice and make double to share with the family. :-)
Pin ItI cooked a big Thanksgiving Dinner for my family, and am excited to share it with you! Everything has its own separate and more detailed post, so I’ve linked each one within the post.
Pin ItAnyone who replies to this post with a healthy and thifty and homemade sack lunch idea will be entered to win a Laptop Lunch B620-Purple Bento Set 2.0 with Outer Container, 5 Inner Containers, and Accessories. My friend Sarah loves the Bentos her kids use, so thought a giveaway would wrap up this week of lunch ideas perfectly.
I wanted to make something that could be made in a big batch, then put in the freezer for a quick breakfast, or eaten for breakfast while traveling. This recipe was wonderful. You can adjust it any way you like – change the meat, add different fillings. It’s extremely versatile.
Pin ItI think school lunches have been on the radar for at least the last year – with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution airing last April. I know a lot of those in the “real food world” have been speaking out about them for years, but to little to no avail. But Jamie Oliver got the mainstream America talking, at least for a little while. School lunch news this week has been all freshly abuzz with the premiere of Food Revolution 2, an article in the Washington Post about flavored milk, and an article in the Chicago Tribune about a school that didn’t allow any child without a medical permission slip to eat anything but the lunches provided by the school.
Here’s the menu for my family for the week of February 28th. As far as desserts go, I have some peaches unthawed that I used to make Scrumptious Cookie Pizza, so I’m going to make a peach cobbler or a Peach Pie with Whole Wheat Crust with those. It is also my birthday week, so I’m going to help the kids make me a birthday cake! I’ll likely splurge and go chocolate chocolate. This weekend we will be celebrating my niece’s 4th birthday, and she has asked me to make her a Wonder Woman cake. Yay me! How exciting! I’ve been working on ideas for a few weeks.
Pin ItThis is the perfect recipe to make for a breakfast or brunch. They are packed with flavor from all of the spices, and the cream cheese is a beautifully decadent addition.
Pin ItHere’s the menu for my family for the week of January 31st. As far as desserts go, we’re going to mail Gregg’s Valentine’s Day box, so I need to make some pink sugar cookies. I’m also going to send him some homemade granola bars, and I think I’m going to make the kids some Decadent Cookies & Cream Cupcakes.
I am personally focusing on a four-month personal fitness challenge, which will include what I eat and when I eat it, and will involve me working out and running daily. I’m not going to do a lot about it here. My husband, Gregg, is starting up a blog about his personal journey with fitness and will leave all of that kind of blogging to him. There will be times that the kids eat something different from me (for instance, I don’t expect them to want tuna in their scrambled eggs). In those instances, I’ll have two meals listed – one for me and one for them.
