Valentine’s Day Treats for School

These treats were made for Kaylee’s 4th grade teachers and school administrators — so, 3 years ago. They weren’t designed to offer any kind of tutorial in how to do them, so I apologize for that, but they give you an idea of how easy it is to put together something personal, something special for those people in your life whom you want to gift with Valentines.

Menu Monday 07 FEB 11

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of February 7th. As far as desserts go, I have several Valentine’s Bouquets to make this week, so we will be making quite a few batches of Traditional Sugar Cookies.

I am going into week 2 of a 16-week personal fitness challenge, which will include what I eat and when I eat it, and will involve me working out and running daily. I’m not going to do a lot about it here. My husband, Gregg, is starting up a blog about his personal journey with fitness and will leave all of that kind of blogging to him. There will be times that the kids eat something different from me (for instance, I don’t expect them to want tuna in their scrambled eggs). In those instances, I’ll have two meals listed – one for me and one for them.

Crusty Whole Wheat Cheese Bread

Kaylee’s great-grandfather and his sons were bakers in Florida for decades. This bread is a similar recipe to one that they sold retail and to restaurants. The herbs in the dough are very light – just enough to enhance the cheese. It is perfect to serve as a side to almost any kind of soup. It is absolutely light and delicious.

What are Antioxidants?

In beginning this regimen, I’ve done quite a bit of research into supplements, vitamins, etc. And a word that I’ve come across several times is the word “antioxidants.” Things that contain antioxidants are apparently good for you. But, why? You may already know this. But since I didn’t and had to learn about it, I thought I’d share with you my newfound knowledge. :-)

Breaking the word down, we get “anti”, which means against, and oxidants. An oxidant is very specifically defined as a chemical agent that oxidizes. Yeah? So?

Menu Monday 31 JAN 2011

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of January 31st. As far as desserts go, we’re going to mail Gregg’s Valentine’s Day box, so I need to make some pink sugar cookies. I’m also going to send him some homemade granola bars, and I think I’m going to make the kids some Decadent Cookies & Cream Cupcakes.

I am personally focusing on a four-month personal fitness challenge, which will include what I eat and when I eat it, and will involve me working out and running daily.

It’s a Party!

My house is in a state of “too much traveling in too short of a time” chaos. In an effort to help me in the only way that he can from so far away, my awesome husband took the initiative and posted four amazing and healthy pizza recipes so that I can take the week “off” and get caught up with life. And because he is much more diligent about details than me, you’re even getting nutritional information in these recipes!
