I thought I’d do the next Essentials series with bakeware, but as I went to collect it all to take pictures, I realized just how much I had. So, I’m breaking it down into types: Cookies, Cakes, Pies, and Desserts.

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of Monday, January 25th.. As far as desserts go, I’m making red velvet cake mini cupcakes with mascarpone cheese frosting, and I’m making Gregg some homemade whole wheat vanilla wafers. The cookie jar is full of them now, but he loves them, so I’m making him some to make peanut butter sandwich cookies with.

It has come to my attention that some folks are concerned about the use of raw egg yolk in my mayonnaise recipe. I tested this home pasteurization technique today to ensure that my mayonnaise recipe still works and I am happy to report that it works fine.

I am honored to be participating in a Real Food Face-Off hosted by Katie at kitchenstewardship.com. My turn hasn’t come up in the rotation yet, but there have been some fantastic bloggerss participating so far.
There was a lot more to our weekend, but I won’t go into it here (heh). It was beautiful, and wonderful, and I fell in love with my husband a million more times this weekend.
This recipe is fantastic for grilled chicken, whether it’s outside on a charcoal grill, inside on my cast iron grill pan, or on the George Forman. I served it with grape leaves, hummus, Greek salad, and an olive tray.
The pictures in this recipe were taken during a romantic weekend getaway shared by Gregg and me. We had a hotel suite with somewhat of a kitchen, and were able to enjoy all of our meals together, in the privacy of our room.

During a recent romantic weekend with Gregg, we decided that we did not want to eat out. Our hotel had a kitchenette with no stove, so we took a crockpot with us and made a vegetable beef soup that we were able to eat for lunch all weekend. It was absolutely wonderful, and tasty, and went perfectly with the cheese platters that Gregg prepared.

I tried to think of ways to make a glass armonica, a furnace, reaching claw, and a flexible urinary catheter. I found that these tutorials although might prove amusing to me and to those who read this would not prove useful to most people performing cupcakery. Somehow a ‘congrats on passing the kidney stone’ cupcake just didn’t feel quite right. I did feel however the kite could easily be used for a spring party or a birthday party and the glasses could be a fun addition to an ‘over the hill’ party. Hope I haven’t embarrassed myself too much and I do hope that I get to show off more complicated cupcakery in the future, but these were fun, educational, and hey darn tasty too!

My friend Natalee agreed to do a guest blog for me while my husband and I ran away for a romantic weekend alone. When looking at the dates for the weekend, we discovered that one of the days fell on Benjamin Franklin’s birthday. As a tribute to this American icon, Natalee created a recipe using only ingredients that were found in Mr. Franklin’s time. She then decorated them in brilliant ways to show off Mr. Franklin’s contributions to history and culture. The post showing how to decorate them can be found here. This is a wonderful recipe to do with your children as a homeschooling aid.
