I’ve talked before about how Scott was born premature. I’ve shared little bits and pieces of how I’d spent 10 days in the hospital prior to his emergency c-section, and how my blood pressure finally got too high on a day when the ultrasound results showed Scott in serious distress, and the doctor – who had been waiting for either one of us to start failing before he would take action – realized that both of his patients were critical and he needed to move NOW.

The first time Kaylee ever kneeded dough, she still had a pacifier in her mouth (I wish I could find that picture.) That made her younger than 3. Now, at 13, she can make anything. She can read just about any recipe, follow the instructions, and create. I let her cook without restraint, and have, just this year, started letting her cook even if I’m not home.
I am at our family’s youth camp, Glen Eden Youth Center, this week. I will be cooking, but I am not in charge of the menu.
Pin ItThe first thing that attracted me to Gregg was his mind. Before we met in person, we had known each other online for two years as part of a writers’ group. This group was supposed to be about writing, but writers like to read what they write, so it was a prolific bunch. We discussed everything from writing to politics to religion. After 9-11, it really exploded with talking and writing, and it wasn’t unusual to get 400-500 emails a day. Gregg and I are very similarrily minded when it comes to religion and politics, so we “bonded” intellectually long before we met. However, that bonding never went beyond the discussions to anything personal simply because I was married. The first time we ever had a private conversation, I was already separated from my husband.
Pin ItI am so excited to be one of the newest members of the Seeds of Faith team! I will be contributing regularly under the label “Writing Worth Reading.” I decided to serialize 5 Conversations You Must Have with Your Daughter as my first project there. My first post will appear Sunday, July 11th, and will be on chapter 1.
Pin ItMy dad came up with this recipe one time. My mom was somewhere doing something and Daddy had to make dinner. He browned hamburger then started dumping things into the pan. He used home canned tomatoes and home canned green beans, which made his version amazing. I’ve not enjoyed Sloppy Joes without the green veggie since.
Pin ItI derived this recipe from Food Network’s Ina Garten. It tastes just like summertime to me. It is also beautiful when it’s sliced. It has become a summer staple in our house.
