I’ve recently been trying to think of ways to make Christmas gift giving more meaningful. I’ve been considering growing fresh herbs and somehow preserving them; then giving them as gifts to female members of my family. Is this a dumb idea? Any ideas how I would go about preserving them?

I think it’s a great idea. However, it would take a lot of fresh herbs to make enough for a gift. Unless you were just bundling enough for a specific recipe.
To preserve, hang them upside down on their stems – that helps the leaves of the herbs get more flavor. When they’re dry, just crush or chop or store.
