What Do You Do When…

You ask your husband to stall five minutes while you rush home, three children in tow, and shovel things into your room and shut the door, throw laundry baskets down the basement stairs and shut the door, whisk dishes off of the coffee table, sweep the dirt clods off of the couch that somehow made it from boy feet to the furniture, and set your teenager to the dining room to make sure that room, at least, has order.

Dear Children

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the current season. Maybe you’ve forgotten that I wasn’t actually born during this time of the year and that it was some of your predecessors who decided to celebrate My birthday on what was actually a time of pagan festival. Although I do appreciate being remembered anytime.

Good Friends

Last Monday, Gregg and I finished our 40-day Daniel Fast. For 40 days, we ate nothing but whole food fruits, vegetables, and some whole grains. To drink, we only had water.

We have good friends who come to our weekly small group in our home every Sunday night, and we had joked about missing chocolate and coffee more than anything.

Hallee on the Issues: Government Spending & the Federal Debt/Deficit

I have a fiscally conservative perspective when it comes to things like government spending. Our government spends WAY too much money. If you want to see some of the mind-boggling appropriations, a good source is Citizens Against Government Waste. They break down how much money went to what, and which Representative is responsible for the bill to enact the spending. Spend some time there and you’ll see what is called “pork” – excessive government use of taxpayer dollars.

Menu Monday – 24 OCT 11 – Daniel Fast Week 3

Here’s the menu for my family for the week of October 24th. I have some pumpkin leftover from my Winter Squash Stuffed with Wild Rice, Dried Cherries, and Roasted Pecans (the recipe will go up this week), and the boys are begging me to make pumpkin cookies.

Our church is currently observing 40 days of fasting, and Gregg and I decided that we would do a Daniel Fast. For the next few weeks, you will see a “vegan extreme” diet. We are consuming only fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and drinking only water – no sugars, honey, syrups, nor eating leavened bread. Kaylee is observing her own form of this fast and will be abstaining from the sugars and the meat – she will be consuming dairy, however. The boys will be eating our meals with us, but will have some meat and will have dairy.

Sunday Viewing

Our rule for Sunday viewing is this: it must be a Bible story, or about God or the Bible in some way. We have a HUGE movie selection, and a big portion of our movies are God focused, so there is no problem finding something to watch. We love it when the kids pick something that is a specific Bible story, but we’re happy with Veggie Tales or similar programming. Kaylee has several Christian themed teen appropriate movies and documentaries, and Gregg and I could watch the documentaries, video studies, and movies we have for a solid month and not put a dent in our choices.
