Today’s Word of Promise
Everyday, I do a 4-mile aerobic walk. It takes me one hour. I listen to my Word of Promise Bible while I walk.
Today, I listened to Luke 6 through Luke 11.
The part that stood out to me today was Luke 8:12, as Jesus explained the Parable of the Sower:
Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Wayside is defined as the edge of the path.
What is the path? How can I, someone desperate to hear the word of God and obey the word of God, stay off of the wayside and remain on the path so that the word cannot be taken out of my heart?
I did some digging into verses about “paths” and came across these (among others):
So you may walk in the way of goodness,
And keep to the paths of righteousness. Proverbs 2:20You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11Make me walk in the path of Your commandments,
For I delight in it. Psalm 119:35
I think the path is following the commandments of God, of which Jesus mentioned often. And, when asked what the greatest of these commandments were, said:
“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-39
I think that those are the wayside are not giving their “all” to God – their heart, soul and mind. I think they’re holding back, and it makes them susceptible to “then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts.”
Today I’m examining my heart, soul, and mind, and I’m making sure I’m loving God with ALL of me so that His word can plant itself in me and take root, and not be trampled on or devoured.
May God bless you and bless your day. Find a word of God speak to you today.
