Because I have two children who were born preemies, I know full well how far medical advances have come in the area of NICU and PICU. I get emails from the March of Dimes, and this fundraising drive caught my eye. I am copying this directly from the March of Dimes website:

High blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, morbid obesity, autism, Type II diabetes, cancer, heart disease, viral outbreaks, a host of chronic conditions — our hospitals and doctors’ offices are flooded with patients.
The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate than any other industrialized nation. In 2006, there were 750,000 teen pregnancies. One third of all end up pregnant before their 20th birthday.
Pin ItFor millenia, human beings have sought methods for healing and health holistically. It is only in the last century or so that we’ve really sought out lab-produced medicines. As wonderful and life-saving as prescription medication can be, in our focus on pharmaceuticals, we’ve lost a lot of knowledge about God provided health and healing properties that grow naturally.
In order for these thousands of walkers to make it from opening ceremonies through three days of walking to closing ceremonies, they need a little help. That’s where the volunteer crew comes in. Hallee and I met as part of that crew, which means we were up at 3:30 in the morning and working throughout the day and in some cases into the night doing a large assortment of odd jobs. It’s a rough gig, but I’m always honored to join in.
