As I write this, it’s December 6th and we have just under three weeks to prepare for our Christmas baking gift giving. This is a tradition my mother taught me, and something I look forward to and plan for every single year.

Since there is just a week left until Christmas Eve, I thought I’d consolidate some recipe ideas for you.
Pin ItHere’s the menu for my family for the week of December 13th. As far as desserts go, I’m going to do some Christmas baking this week. Today is a snow day for our local schools, so I’m going to get a batch of sugar cookies going and have the kids make Gregg’s Gingerbread Houses and Royal Icing.
Pin ItTraditionally, gingerbread cookies are decorated with white icing and raisins for features, but feel free to let your imagination run wild with other decorations such as red hots, colored sugar sprinkles, gumdrops, etc. Prepared dough will keep in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. This wonderful, versatile dough can not only be used to make gingerbread men, but also other shapes, like gingerbread houses.
Pin ItIn an effort to economize, when creating a recipe for Gingerbread Cookies that would certainly need Royal Icing, I decided to experiment with the eggs in use. Splitting the egg yolks into the gingerbread and saving the whites for the icing worked out perfectly.
