Our Daily Bread: Delicious Whole Grain Bread

Posted by Hallee on Feb 20, 2014 in Breads, Recipes

I used to make Honey Oatmeal Bread for our daily bread use. It is SO DELICIOUS and you honestly have never tasted toast as good as this bread makes toast. However, it doesn’t do well for most sandwiches — it’s a little too sweet and a little too crumbly. So, in researching writing The Walking Bread, I came across a new recipe that I tried out. I have to say – I’ve never had homemade whole wheat bread that is this moist and this wonderful.

I LOVE this recipe. I modified it from the original recipe – using a fresh ground mixture of hard red and hard white wheat, removing any call for white flour, and replacing brown sugar with raw honey. It made the recipe even better, in my opinion…

Whole Wheat Blueberry Muffins

Posted by Hallee on Feb 25, 2011 in Breads, Breakfast, Hallee's Galley, Recipes

I love blueberry muffins. I always have blueberries in the freezer for making smoothies, and all summer I keep fresh blueberries on hand in the refrigerator. About once a week, I make muffins for breakfast, and blueberry muffins are a family favorite.

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup with Spinach

Posted by Hallee on Dec 30, 2010 in Hallee's Galley, Recipes, Soups

This is an awesome, hearty soup. It is packed full of good-for-you yumminess and will beat any chicken soup in any can on a grocery store shelf. On a whim one day while making chicken noodle soup, I tossed in a few handfuls of fresh spinach. Oh yes – this took this amazing soup over the edge. Don’t let the winter get by without making yourself a big pot of this – and freeze some for later. You’ll be glad you did.

Stacy’s Pumpkin Rolls

Posted by Hallee on Oct 20, 2010 in Desserts, Hallee's Galley, Recipes

I worked a bake sale last summer and everyone asked for pumpkin rolls. I had never heard of them before, so I asked my readers for recipes. My friend Stacy posted this one. It was so much easier than I anticipated. And the result was simply divine. I took them as dessert feeding the group of volunteers with which I work Tuesday nights, and they were inhaled. A friend there loves pumpkin rolls- they are her dessert of choice over all others – and she said these were some of the best she had ever made. I used whole wheat flour for the cake. The filling was so light and creamy. It was hard to resist just sitting down with a spoon and eating it straight out of the bowl.
