We aren’t going to judge or condemn what anyone else does anything different – from decorating Easter eggs to full blown gift giving bonanzas. Each family needs to make their own decisions and their own traditions for holidays. This is just how our family has decided to observe this, what is to us, the most holy and amazing of all holidays.

It has come to my attention that many of you are upset that folks are taking My name out of the current season. Maybe you’ve forgotten that I wasn’t actually born during this time of the year and that it was some of your predecessors who decided to celebrate My birthday on what was actually a time of pagan festival. Although I do appreciate being remembered anytime.
As much as I enjoy feeding my family, breakfast on Christmas morning always feels like an afterthought to me. We’ve usually been up for hours, opening presents and sipping on coffee and hot chocolate, when suddenly everyone is hungry and I just don’t feel like cooking or dirtying up dishes.
Pin ItWhen I left Kaylee’s dad, I moved on December 15th. One might wonder why I moved out of my house the week before Christmas when we had a 4-year-old. Most people would try to “stay normal” until after the Christmas holidays for the sake of their children. My timing had less to do with me and more to do with the fact that he’d moved his girlfriend into our guest room on the 12th.
If you are anywhere near Petersburg, Kentucky, the Creation Museum’s Christmas Town is more than worth the trip. It’s a free event that includes a Bethlehem market (if only we’d known about it and thought ahead – they had some wonderful products that would have made really fun Christmas gifts), amazing lights, and live action dramas that present the story of Christ’s birth. We had a wonderful (albeit cold) time when we went last night.
As I write this, it’s December 6th and we have just under three weeks to prepare for our Christmas baking gift giving. This is a tradition my mother taught me, and something I look forward to and plan for every single year.
Pin ItI love finding a recipe that will be my new go-to recipe for entertaining. We had company for dinner, and since we’re observing a Daniel Fast, this was our main course using acorn squash. The next evening, we served a soup and had this as a side using pumpkins. The rice is amazing alone, but pared with the winter squash, it is remarkable. This would be beautiful gracing any holiday table.
