In 2002, you would have been hard pressed to find a more patriotic American than me. I was a newlywed, the wife of a Special Forces soldier who was fighting the War on Terror on the front lines, and I was a huge advocate for our presence in Iraq. The partisan political buzz didn’t dissuade my opinions (and in hindsight, I don’t believe I was wrong) about aggressively battling terrorists on their home turfs.

With it being the second week of November, and Tuesday being election day in the United States, I thought I’d do a series of posts on my opinions on “the issues” that face Americans today. Then I discarded the idea, because I barely have time to get recipe posts up the way I like. But, when I was brainstorming for posts ideas, a friend on Facebook asked me to write a post on the Iraq War. It brought back my idea to do a series of “Issues” posts.
On Monday, Kaylee has softball conditioning for two hours and Tuesdays are horseback riding lessons. This past Monday she really worked out at softball conditioning. She was worn out Monday night. Tuesday morning she could barely move. Tuesday afternoon, I got a text from her that said that she was so sore she couldn’t walk. I texted her back and said that she still needed to go to horseback riding lessons and at least try. My thought was that her muscles would warm up once she was on the horse.
Our rule for Sunday viewing is this: it must be a Bible story, or about God or the Bible in some way. We have a HUGE movie selection, and a big portion of our movies are God focused, so there is no problem finding something to watch. We love it when the kids pick something that is a specific Bible story, but we’re happy with Veggie Tales or similar programming. Kaylee has several Christian themed teen appropriate movies and documentaries, and Gregg and I could watch the documentaries, video studies, and movies we have for a solid month and not put a dent in our choices.
This was just one paragraph from this entire chapter. This chapter was so important and so relevant to having an abiding relationship with Jesus Christ and living a life free from the bondage of sin, that I feel like reading it every single day, over and over again, until the words are impressed in my memory.
Pin ItHere’s my recommendation to my (mostly) female readers: take your husband to see this movie. Arrange child care, tell him he has a hot date tonight, and go see this movie. Then have him take some friends, and have him take his teenaged sons or his brother or his father. The men in America need to see this movie and they need to rise up to the challenges presented within it.
I’ve had so many people ask me how the transition of Gregg being home has gone. This past weekend, while Gregg had drill in Alabama, the kids and I visited my parents in West Virginia. At church Sunday, their pastor asked me how married life was treating me – as if we were newlyweds. It made me laugh. It also made me want to share this.
I’m embarrassed to say how long ago I received the following letter – several weeks at least. I read it, and started mulling over it and just never got back to it. It took me a while to decide how to respond, and then it took me a while to decide to respond here. The subject line in the email was “Help!”
