reCap Caps

I got a *TON* of inquiries about the lid on my mason jar in my Powdered Laundry Detergent post. This is just one of those super simple, completely clever inventions that I wish I’d come up with myself.

They’re called Recap lids. This is NOT a paid or otherwise advertisement for Recap. I’m sure that they don’t have a clue who Hallee the Homemaker is, and that link is not an affiliate link. This is just a “I found this really cool thing and I want to tell you about it” post.

They come in two sizes – regular or wide mouth – and they fit on top of your mason jar.

Powdered Laundry Detergent

One of the most popular posts on this blog is my Homemade Laundry Detergent. It is so popular because you can wash laundry for the cost of about $1.06 per 64 loads of laundry.

Well, you have to make that soap ahead of time and let it gel up overnight. Which is cool when you’re paying attention. Not so cool when you lose track of how little soap is in the bottom of the container.

Christmas Baking Planning

I have a confession to make: I barely baked last Christmas at all. I did gifts for Scott’s teacher, and that’s about it.
This year, my intention is to do my mammoth baking that I’ve enjoyed in the past. I want to make cookies and candies and breads and just have a blast doing it. But, to incorporate something like that into my schedule, it takes some planning and some time. With just three weeks until Christmas, and only two full weeks of school left, it’s time to get to planning!
I love giving my friends delicious homemade treats as a Christmas gift. I used to do it while I worked full time, and would spend and entire Saturday and most of a Sunday baking and cooking and cleaning and mixing. Over the years, I’ve learned how to space the work out so that it’s not so frantic and exhausting.
