Hello Hallee. I found you on Menu Plan Monday at the Org. Junkie. Thank you for your post about Souper Bowl of Caring. I blogged about it too on my website. http://www.samanthaandersenphotography.com/2012/01/soup-caring-dinner-for-4plus-2.html I am always encouraged by other Mom’s who are doing their best to live within their faith. Something I struggle with from time to time. Thanks for the inspiration. I am also going to link your vegetable beef stew recipe in a future MPM. Thanks again. God Bless you and your family.
I just saw a negative post on FB about Angelfood Ministries. I wonder if that’s the same organization you’re working with, or if your local organization is separate.
They have the same logo, so I assume it’s the same. Since I typically don’t get any news, I didn’t know about the indictment until I posted this post, and a friend told me about it.
Our local organization is still working. A friend and I took them a bunch of food we’d collected over Christmas last week. The woman was so pleased to get the food that she was in tears. In hindsight, I wonder if the press (which I’ve since caught up on reading) about them has negatively impacted the local donations. She told us the items they needed the most were the backpack meal items to send home from school with impoverished children. She said right now that they couldn’t meet the demand of numbers, and only about half of the children are getting food who need it. This is a seriously poor area.
Our group will discuss it Sunday, but I feel certain that the donations we’ve so generously received will still go to them. The children are still hungry despite the (alleged – heh) greed and wickedness of the people in Georgia.
I will pray for your great success in feeding and serving your community <3
Hi Hallee and thanks so much for this post! Souper Bowl of Caring is active in all 50 states and it’s always great to see people lifting up the simple idea to use the energy of the Super Bowl to help people in need. Keep up the great work and thanks so much for the plug! For anyone participating in Souper Bowl of Caring this weekend, remember to register and report your collection on our website-tacklehunger.org. None of the money or food you raise underwrites the program expenses of Souper Bowl of Caring, but reporting your collection simply adds you to the national total. What an amazing thing to see all of our efforts joined together. We’re over $3.2 million today!
Blessings,
Tracy Bender
President and CEO, Souper Bowl of Caring
There doesn’t seem to be an active Souper Bowl event in my location but because of your post I did donate to a local charity that has a backpack program.
