Feeding the Homeless for Jesus

Lisa Voveris won our annual Missions Giveaway last week.  Her mission is “Feeding the Homeless for Jesus,” a ministry that she runs out of her own kitchen.

Outside one winter, she was so cold that her legs were hurting.  She started thinking about the homeless people who live in tents in her city of Taunton, Massachusetts, and decided to do a drive for thermal underwear for them.  While delivering the thermals to 40 of her city’s homeless, she discovered that all of the city’s soup kitchens and food pantries were closed on the weekends.  That left from Friday until Monday for no meals for a lot of them.

Determined to fix that, Lisa started cooking meals in her own kitchen.  Every weekend, she feeds 35-40 people, 6 of whom are children.  Her goal is to find a church kitchen to use where she can prepare even more meals.

Lisa is a single disabled mom surviving on SSI.  Every meal she prepares is provided by donations.  I had to friend her on Facebook to communicate back and forth because of the medium she uses for internet access.  Scrolling through her wall posts, I discovered a post that said she was low on funds and needed help getting food for the weekend.  The next day, she won our missions giveaway for $100.  God is obviously placing His hand on her ministry.

As she said in her plea for help, giving up $3 might mean a cup of coffee at Dunkin Doughnuts to you, but it means an entire meal to someone who is hungry.  If you would like to help by donating, you can paypal Lisa money to ladyinblack402003@yahoo.com.

I am so thankful that God placed her in my life.  I pray that He continues to bless her ministry, provide her with a church kitchen, and keep her donations coming in.  Please join me in praying for her as well.

“If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:17-18
