Family Favorite French Toast
Family Favorite French Toast
French toast is one of my favorite breakfasts. I love having French Bread in my weekly menu, because that allows me to put French toast somewhere in my breakfast menu. I also love that this is another recipe that my children can help me prepare.
8 thick slices of French Bread
2 eggs
1 cup whole milk
1 TBS sugar
½ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp Kosher or sea salt
unsalted butter
powdered sugar
cutting board and bread knife
bowl
measuring cups/spoons
whisk
griddle or frying pan
spatula
Slice bread in thick slices.
Whisk 2 eggs until well beaten.
Add milk.
Add spices and sugar.
Mix well.
Heat griddle to about 375° degrees F. Melt butter on griddle.
Place bread in bowl and let soak for about 10 seconds. Flip over and let soak for at least 5 more seconds.
Put on griddle. Cook until browned (about 3 minutes – gently lift the edge of the bread to check.) Turn over and cook until the other side is browned.
Dust with powdered sugar.

I make it the same way only I add a teaspoon or two of pure vanilla extract to the egg mixture – it’s so yummy!
Me too Erin :). Sooo delicious.
I make it the same way too! One thing that I add is 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder to the batter. It was something that my grandmother did all my life to her recipe as well. It makes the batter thick and the bread gets puffy and fuller. It’s a great addition :)
I will definitely try it!
I typically do, too. I inadvertently left it out of the original recipe (must have left it out when I took pictures, too, or I would have remembered). Thank you!
I am making french toast tonight with the cranberry swirl bread I made the other day.
I really need to learn to make bread just for this recipe if no other reason. :)
French bread is probably the easiest bread to make. It would be a good starting point!
